Library
The purpose of the committee is to acts as a focal point for all library- related activities for students like maintenance of academic resources such as Books, Newspapers, Online journals, Magazines; content sharing and other Library related matters. The Committee strives to provide better facilities to students via the library and educational resources. The committee addresses any issues of students regarding the library.
OBJECTIVES:
- To take stock of the existing, newly added and total number of books.
- To see that the library is computerised.
- To arrange talks for students to motivate them to cultivate reading habits and organise reading Mahotsav for the same.
- To see that library issue / return of books are maintained through software.
- To ensure that a Suggestion Box is installed in the library and the reader’s grievances are attended to and measures suggested.
- To maintain a record of the services rendered/ activities conducted and submit the same to the IQAC Committee.
- To foster the teaching-learning process by updating & enriching library collection and its documentation services.
- To allocate sufficient funds for purchasing the resource material to support the academic needs of the users.

Vision: Our modality is to create a vibrant and inclusive learning community which includes students, faculty, and staff. It is the vision of the library to explore knowledge, pursue intellectual growth, and achieve academic success and to support the institution and its stakeholder by providing coherent access to the broad spectrum of knowledge resources such as digital, online databases, print and non-print materials relevant to the curricular.
Mission: The mission is to provide college students with the information they need to achieve their highest academic potential through dynamic and innovative environment that supports learning and help them acquire research skills necessary for lifelong learning. It also aims to support teaching faculty & administrative staff to exchange knowledge within the educational communities.
Strategic Goals & Objectives
The following are the goals and objectives of the library.
- To develop and enhance the capability of the library resources and services to meet the demands of the curricular, instructional, and research programs through providing regular funding to yearly acquisition of library materials.
- To provide well-equipped and functional physical spaces where students can pursue learning independently beyond the classrooms.
- To facilitate access to right information in the right manner so as to produce productive citizens to this great nation in general and to community in particular.
- To facilitate access to a wide range of educational resources, including books, journals and other print and non- print materials.
- To establish a strong library linkage with other institutions and agencies in the country and if possible, with organizations and agencies from foreign countries by seeking contact with these agencies.

Advancement of Knowledge
We value quest for curiosity and open sharing of knowledge. We recognize the critical role libraries serve in the knowledge creation cycle through our provision of access to it. For this we have an annual subscription to many international and national digital libraries like N- List and reputed journals to share new knowledge openly.
Diversity
We are intentional in embracing diversity and eradicating human value disparity through our teaching endeavors, content provision and daily interactions with students. Our library has been a big support to this as it has a diverse collection of books, textbooks, journals, e- contents and other reading materials which constantly help the stakeholders to enhance their knowledge
Open Access
We support and promote the concept of open culture. This includes research, digital collections and data, publications, scholarly products, and technological resources. The users have been privileged of open access to the bookshelves for browsing books during library hours. Library users can access to e-journals and e-books anywhere 24X7 through N-list program.
Student success
We value students’ quest of learning, high quality of life, critical thinking skills, and career goals by providing access to research and expertise necessary to attain these goals. Our library supports this endeavour by providing the students sufficient competitive books for clearing various competitive exams.

Our library has been loaded with many novels of reputed authors which help the students not only to entertain themselves but also to enhance their communication and writing skills. Thus our students become happy and skilful simultaneously.

The Library committee organised a Library Orientation for freshers.The librarian Ms. Anikita Rai enlightened the students about how to effectively use the resources as well. Some of the other vital topics which were covered during the session were like:

The students appreciated the programme as they gained good insights about the library usage on a regular basis.
BOOK FAIR
Students of Sunbeam Women’s College Varuna embarked on an enriching excursion to the Library Fair. organized at Varuna School with the aim of promoting a culture of reading and learning, the fair showcased a diverse array of books, educational resources, and literary activities.The fair featured numerous stalls representing various publishers, bookstores, and educational institutions.Exhibitors showcased a wide range of books, from academic texts to literature, catering to diverse interests and age groups.Students had the chance to explore freshly released titles and engage with authors during book signing sessions.
The Library runs with some important rules & regulations which are followed by every member of library.
General rules of library
- All Faculty and Students of the college are members of the library.
- Every member must sign the register available at the entrance.
- Observe silence & maintain discipline.
- Students can borrow 2/3 books of different subjects for one week.
- Teachers can borrow two books of different subjects for a month.
- Reference books, Year books, Competitive books & Journals and Periodicals are to be read only in the library.
- After reading, make sure that books, magazines and newspapers are kept at their respective places.
- The members should take good care of library furniture and equipment.
- Make sure that the library looks good when you leave as it was when you came in.
- Eatables are not allowed in the library.
- Any type of marking, underlining, or writing in library books, magazines, and newspapers are strictly forbidden.
- Handle the book carefully & DO NOT TEAR PAGES.
- Making the noise, group discussion, playing music on computers/ handsets in the library are strictly prohibited.
- The book issued for home reading must be returned to the library within seven days.
- Playing games, chatting, downloading any pictures/ songs, videos & misuse of internet are not allowed.
- Students/ faculty members must register their bio-metric attendance before entering and exiting the library.
- All the issued books by faculties and students must be returned before the summer vacations.
- The librarian may call for a book at any time, even if the normal period of issuing the books has not been expired.
Fine Rules:
- A fine of Rs.10/- per day/ per book will be levied/ charged for delay of returning the books. Rs.500/- will be charged if it exceeds 15 days of the due date of returning the books.
- In case of loss/ damage/disfiguring/tearing of pages of library books, the current MRP of the book(s) should be levied as fine or a new copy of the book will be demanded.
- In case of loss/ damage of library card Rs.20/- will be charged and duplicate card will be issued.
- The fine is to be charged from the students by the librarian by issuing a manual and that same is to be deposited to accountant on the same day.
